New process for CAS J1 Visa Requests

The email below was sent out by ISSS this week announcing their new ISSS Portal. With this exciting announcement, departments will now submit J1 visiting scholar requests directly to ISSS via the portal. You will no longer need to submit them via email to the Dean’s Office. Previously submitted requests, that are already in process, will continue to be processed via the old system and will not be visible from your portal dashboard.
To gain access to the portal you will first need to watch a short training video. Upon completing the training, log into the Portal using your ONYEN and password and complete the registration request. ISSS will contact you when your access has been granted, (usually within 24 hours). Questions on pending J1 cases submitted via the CAS_J1 email should continue to be addressed to cas_j1@email.unc.edu.

We wanted to follow up on the October 14th email. We are thrilled to share with you that the ISSS Portal has officially launched!
As a reminder the ISSS Portal is our new immigration case management system. The ISSS Portal allows hosting units to prepare and submit requests to ISSS electronically. The system is being rolled out in phases, beginning with J-1 Exchange Visitor requests.
To get access to the ISSS Portal, you will need to watch our required training video that will show you how to access and use the new system. You can access the ISSS Portal training here: https://uncch.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Sessions/List.aspx?folderID=43fd3a1b-ac9a-4526-a9c6-af3c00ca4afb
Once you have completed the training, log into the ISSS Portal using your ONYEN and password. You will then complete and submit the Departmental Access Request Form. ISSS will contact you once your access has been granted or if anything additional is needed to proceed.
Within the ISSS Portal, you will be able to initiate J-1 Exchange Visitor requests for submission to ISSS. Additional resources will be available in the ISSS Portal under Hosting Unit Services.
