Launch of Phase 2 of the ISSS Portal

We hope this message finds you well. Following up on our communication from October 30th, we are delighted to announce the official launch of Phase 2 of the ISSS Portal! This expansion includes Pre-Review and H-1B requests, following the successful rollout of J-1 Exchange Visitor requests last year. Stakeholder input obtained as part of the pilot has been instrumental in refining the system to ensure its effectiveness.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we re-envisioned the process, with the electronic posting of notice for UNC worksite locations being just one example. This collaborative effort with OHR aims to boost efficiency and compliance. Additionally, we are introducing the OVPGA Policy on Sponsorship for Postdoctoral Research Associates. While the policy document is new, the outlined practices have been in effect for some time. It’s important to emphasize that, following the guidelines of the OVPGA Policy on Sponsorship for Postdoctoral Research Associates, all foreign nationals requiring university-sponsored work authorization for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position/appointment must be invited in J-1 Exchange Visitor status, unless they meet specific exceptions.

Once inside the ISSS Portal, you can initiate Pre-Review and H-1B Update Reporting requests for submission to ISSS. Supplementary resources can be found within the ISSS Portal under Hosting Unit Services – ISSS Portal Resources.
