Immigration Update – Electronic Transmission of Form DS-2019 for J-1 Exchange Visitors
Sent: May 2, 2023 1:01 pmDear Colleagues,
The U.S. Department of State published an interim final rule regarding the electronic transmission of Forms DS‑2019. The new rule allows the advisors at ISSS to electronically transmit Forms DS-2019 via email directly to J-1 Exchange Visitors and their J-2 dependents.
Effective tomorrow (5/2/2023):
- Hosting Units will no longer need to pick up the DS-2019 forms from ISSS and mail them to the J-1 Exchange Visitors
- ISSS advisors will email the DS-2019 form, along with the finalized J-1 invitation letter, directly to the J-1 Exchange Visitor
The J-1 Exchange Visitor must still print out the Form DS-2019 and sign it by hand. They must present the paper Form DS-2019 at U.S. embassies and consulates when they apply for a J-1 or J-2 visa stamp, and when they enter the United States at a Port of Entry.
Thank you for your attention to this important immigration update.
Sincerely,
International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS)
