Reappointments and Promotions (Tenure-Track)
Tenure-track faculty on probationary appointments must undergo regularly scheduled reviews for reappointment, promotion, and/or tenure. Assistant professors in their initial probationary term undergo review for reappointment to a second probationary term during their third year in rank. During year two of that second probationary term (sixth year overall), assistant professors then undergo review for promotion to associate professor with tenure. Faculty initially hired at the associate professor rank without tenure undergo tenure review during their fourth year in rank. Associate professors with tenure are eligible to apply for promotion at any time, though we encourage tenured faculty to align review for promotion with their scheduled post-tenure review.
Faculty members who wish to request a tenure-clock extension should submit the Review Deferral Request Form (see below) not later than 24 months before the end of the term to which it is to apply.
Included on this page are resources to assist with the reappointment and/or promotion review process for tenure-track faculty.
