Each tenured faculty member must undergo post-tenure review (PTR) every five years following the conferral of permanent tenure. For associate professors, post-tenure review and review for promotion to full professor are combined as one review process on a five-year schedule. Associate professors who elect to waive promotion review and undergo only the mandatory PTR should submit their waiver requests to the department chair. Faculty members who wish to request a PTR deferral for a compelling reason should submit the Review Deferral Request Form (see below) in advance of the scheduled review.

Included on this page are resources to assist you in the PTR process, as well as links to the UNC PTR training module. All tenured faculty are required to complete this module and submit a signed attestation form to their department.
