As part of our ongoing efforts to provide additional support in the faculty administration space, we will be implementing a quarterly newsletter with information about upcoming deadlines, new resources, and policy updates.

 

The highlight of this quarter’s newsletter is the launch of the CASBO faculty administration website. Please spend some time exploring the website and complete the accompanying website feedback survey to help us serve you better.

Upcoming Deadlines

  1. Dossiers for teaching-track promotions effective 1/1 – November 14th
  2. Dossiers for tenure-track promotions effective 7/1 – December 9th
  3. Fixed-term faculty hires and reappointments effective 1/1 should be submitted via RASR at least 45 days before the effective date

New Resources

  1. We have launched a CASBO faculty administration website with APT resources to assist departments. Please spend some time exploring the website and complete this feedback survey to help us serve you better.
  2. Department Chairs and Managers should have received an invitation to the College of Arts & Sciences APT Calendar in Outlook. Please contact Evan Pebesma (epebesma@unc.edu) if you need assistance accessing the calendar.

 

Policy Updates

  1. Faculty Personnel Policies Revision Process: In order to align with the updated policies set by the Office of Faculty Affairs, the College is implementing a standardized procedure for departmental faculty personnel policy revisions. Details of the new procedure can be found in the Chair’s Manual.
  2. Guidelines for an Open-Rank Hire: We have provided additional information in the Chair’s Manual regarding offer letters, dossier submission timelines, and external letters of evaluation for open-rank hires.
  1. Departmental Distinguished Professorships: We have provided additional information in the Chair’s Manual regarding the departmental distinguished professorship nomination and appointment process. We have also created a letter template for departments to notify faculty members of the terms of their award, including salary increase and available research funds.
  1. Non-Renewal of Fixed-Term Faculty Contracts: We have provided additional information in the Chair’s Manual regarding non-renewal of fixed-term faculty contracts. We have also created a letter template for departments to notify faculty of their contract non-renewal.
